I.INDIA’S FIRST ‘CITY OF LITERATURE’
- UNESCO announced Kozhikode as India’s first UNESCO ‘City of Literature’
- It placed it under the literary category of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
- Kozhikode or Calicut is located on the Malabar coast
- UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is established in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities.
- The 350 cities around the world which currently make up this network
II.G7/ GROUP OF 7
- The G7 is an informal grouping of advanced democracies that meets annually to coordinate global economic policy and address other transnational issues
- Its genesis traces back to 1975 in response to economic and financial cooperation due to energy crisis
- The members are the US, Germany, Canada, the UK, Japan, Italy, France.
- Russia joined G7 in 1998, creating the G8, but was excluded in 2014 for its takeover of Crimea
- India participated in the 50th Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Apulia, Italy.
- But India is not a member of the group
III.PINAKA ROCKET SYSTEM
- Pinaka is a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).
- The Pinaka MBRL is designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the DRDO.
- It was first used during the Kargil War, where it successfully neutralised Pakistan Army positions on the mountain tops.
- It has a range of 60 to 75 kilometers.
- It is named after Shiva’s bow, can fire a salvo of 12 rockets over a period of 44 seconds.
